Medical residency AI headshots can be useful when you need a polished application photo quickly, but “AI-generated” does not automatically mean “ERAS-ready.” Before choosing a tool, confirm the current upload requirements in your application portal or school guidance, then judge the headshot on realism, crop, background, file format, and professionalism.
The safest goal is simple: a recent, natural-looking head-and-shoulders photo that meets the technical upload rules and does not distract from the rest of your application.
Many AI vendors advertise ERAS formatting, but the applicant is still responsible for uploading an acceptable photo. AI can be a practical option if you are short on time, do not have access to a campus photo day, need several wardrobe/background options, or want a backup image before submitting. It is less ideal if the output does not look like you, adds unrealistic facial details, or creates obvious artifacts around hair, glasses, teeth, hands, or clothing.
